Landen McCall BirchLanden

***what's new!***

Landen attends kindergarten at Deseret Academy. Kelly and I attended the dedication ceremony on Saturday, November 7, 1998. If you have school-age children or are just concerned about the quality of our children's education and live in Salt Lake or Utah county, then you should check it out. Deseret Academy teaches LDS values as well as the values set forth in the Constitution of the United States.

A funny Landen story

The other day Landen was in the car with Kelly. He was playing the 'what if' game. "What if there was nothing? What if everything was black? What if everything could fit into a teeny-tiny little ball?"

Some more of Landen's questions: "What makes the Earth stay in space? Do you know what happened to the Star of Bethlehem? It burned up. Now it's not there. It's a sun." Now, we had never discussed that the Star of Bethlehem was probably a supernova that was so bright that it lit up the nighttime sky. I asked him who told him that, and he said "no one."

A quote from Landen, "I'm impressed of Tide".

Landen reads quite well (at a 6th or 7th-grade level), and has been doing so since two years of age (no, that's not a typo! You read it right!). Seriously, it must be a genetic thing because I started talking at six months of age, and just always knew how to read as far back as I can remember. Landen is naturally curious and wants to know things. Some of his favorite books are the Clifford series by Norman Bridwell, and the Arthur books by Marc Brown. The library is one of Landen's favorite places to go.

Quotable Quotes by Landen
What he said
Why he said it
Remember when Frosty died, and Karen cried, and Santa made a new Frosty? I liked the old Frosty better. I like old things. Like this. Landen then proceeded to open a drawer in our chest of drawers, and pulled out one of his treasures, in this case a lamp dimmer attachment."Frosty" is, of course, a reference to one of Landen's favorite movies, Frosty the Snowman. Sometimes children say the most revealing things that give insight into their unique personalities. Are you listening?
Sin-gin
Win-gin
Pocho
Some of Landen's made-up words. Pocho (pronounced poach-o) is a name he gave to one of his Fisher-Price little people.
Hey, come here and get a spanking, and chicken pox, and some owies, and a wedgie! Come on and I'll pinch you! Come get closer to me and I'm going to be a scary ghost and scare you and say BOO!What Landen said when Kelly asked what he would say to a babysitter he'd had who, among other things, force-fed him salmon. Needless to say, that was his last day there!
Everybody needs to look at the package!Whenever Landen is eating cereal (or anything) he wants to look at the package. This goes for toys, food, or whatever!
Can you talk? Like this?Landen was playing in the ball pit at McDonald's and was concerned because another child was playing too quietly, so this is what he asked the other child.
"Grandma's Moon"Grandma Birch's house faces south. When we leave at night he sees the moon and calls it Grandma's Moon.
Do you love me? With smiling?Said when he thinks I might be upset with him. It's not enough to say that I love him, I have to smile when I say it.
"It's attached to me, but not attached to you."Some of Landen's "commercial" slogans (said during his impromptu laundry commercials):
"Anywhere you want to go, anything you want to do."
"I love you anyway"One day I was swinging Landen in the backyard and I accidentally bumped his head while putting him in the swing. I told him I was sorry a couple of times, and jokingly asked him if he would forgive me. He was quiet for a moment, then this was his reply. Talk about melting my heart!
